The dental hygiene assessment consists of a thorough exam of the head, neck and internal hard and soft tissue of the mouth such as your teeth, gums, tongue etc. Is also includes an oral cancer evaluation.

Oral Cancer Screening
Through regular screening, mouth cancer can be detected in its’ early stages. The Oral cancer screening exam is to check your mouth to see if there are any abnormalities that need to be followed up and any significant findings can then be referred for biopsy for an actual diagnosis.

Referrals are made to the appropriate health practitioner if any abnormalities are detected.

Scaling is a very important part of the dental hygiene appointment. Visiting a Registered Dental Hygienist regularly for professional cleanings will help you achieve and maintain optimal oral health. Scaling consists of the removal of plaque (biofilm) and tartar above and below the gum line to reduce gum inflammation and prevent bone loss and support for the teeth. Scaling is the dental hygienist expertise! Maintaining your smile is an important component of your overall health and wellbeing.

Healthy gums don’t bleed!

Polishing removes plaque and stains from the tooth surface above the gum line, leaving the tooth surface shiny and smooth. A dental polishing usually follows a dental scaling but can also be done between cleanings for special occasions. This will brighten your smile.

We also provide custom fit whitening trays allow you to monitor and achieve your desired whiteness in the convenience of your own home. Your whitening trays are fabricated from an impression of your teeth and allow you to achieve whiter teeth in a safe and effective manner.

Custom fitted whitening trays are used once per day, for 1-2 hours.

Results are comparable to in-office whitening but take longer to achieve. Keep your trays rather than disposing of them for future use!

It is important to note that whitening is only effective in removing stains on natural teeth. Restorations, crowns, bridges and implants will not change in color.

Sensitive teeth, due to gum recession or brushing too hard can be treated by applying a desensitizing agent.

Desensitization can be performed by your Dental Hygienist, as they are qualified to apply a desensitizing agent to the tooth surface that will block the exposed root surface and reduce sensitivity to cold, water and air. This procedure may involve the use of desensitizing agents to reduce tooth hypersensitivity towards your favorite food and drinks, while addressing the root cause of your sensitivity.

The fluoride treatment assists in strengthening and remineralizing the tooth enamel for individuals with risks of, or history of caries (“cavities”). The fluoride treatment is available in a foam-tray technique or a rinse. Fluoride supports healthy tooth enamel & fights bacteria.

A thin layer of white filling material is placed in the small crevasses of newly erupted teeth to protect them from bacteria and to aid in the prevention of cavities and decay. They are a safe, painless, low cost way to protect your children’s teeth from decay. There is no freezing required for this treatment and Dental Hygienists are qualified to perform this procedure. No drilling or freezing required. It is a very effective preventive measure and it cost a lot less than a filling!

Proform mouthguards are custom fitted mouthguards created from an impression of the patients’ teeth and gums.

Examination, referral to dentist or temporary pain relief treatments such as Interim Stabilization Therapy.

A therapeutic temporary filling placed when immediate access to a dentist is not available or possible. Contains fluoride to help minimize growth of bacteria, and reduce sensitivity.
